McWong's Sandflo filter system is a uniquely designed product to provide high removal efficiencies of suspended solids from a variety of water and wastewater sources. The Sandflo filter system is a continuously backwashing, upflow, deep bed style sand filter. Typical gravity flow sand filters require a periodic shutdown for backwashing and sometimes utilize complicated washing mechanisms to effectively clean the sand bed. But the Sandflo filter system continuously cleans the sand bed allowing for simpler operation and reduced energy costs when compared to traditional sand filters.
Characteristics
1. It can be operated continuously, there is no need for periodic backwashing.
2. The system is simple and easy to install.
3. Virtually no maintenance and no operator supervision is required.
4. The system design has been optimized to provide an evenly dispersed water flow through the sand bed.
5. System materials have been designed for industrial applications, all material components can withstand harsh environments.
Working Principle
The Sandflo filter system performs two separate but simultaneous processes:? water polishing and sand backwashing.
1. Water polishing
The raw water first flows from an elevated tank into the distribution zone at the base of the sand filter. The distribution cone evenly disperses the raw water through the sand bed. Organic and inorganic suspended solids are removed in the lower portion of the sand bed. The filtered water then rises to the top of the Sandflo system and over the discharge weir.
2.Sand backwashing:
As the impurities in the water are intercepted and removed in the lower portion of the sand bed, the air lift pump at the base of the sand filter continuously sends the sand and captured particles to the top of the sand filter system into a centrally located washing chamber. This chamber violently scrubs the sand particles, loosening the suspended solids from the sand while also allowing the air to escape, and the sand to settle down to the top of the sand layer.
